SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. (WLUC) - Investigators say an elderly couple is dead after an apparent murder-suicide in Chippewa County.
Sault Ste. Marie police officers were called to the report of two gun shots in the city of Sault Ste. Marie Thursday morning.
At 10:16 a.m., officers responded to the Medilodge of Sault Ste. Marie, located at 1011 Meridian Street.
According to police, officers arrived to find an elderly husband and wife on the grass outside of the nursing care facility, where the wife was a resident. Both died of a single gunshot wound in an apparent murder-suicide.
Police say a handgun was recovered near the victims.
The investigation is ongoing with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Department patrol officers and detectives.
The names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
