How to celebrate Valentine's Day with loved ones and the community

MARQUETTE COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) - Snow and love are in the air just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Local businesses like Michigan Made are offering creative experiences to share with your loved one.

"We are offering a couples painting class, we do classes every month here at the store, but we wanted to do one that was more focused on doing something together and learning a newer art technique called arctic pouring," said Michigan Made employee, Brittany Dagenais.

Using the shape of the U.P. as their backdrop and with wine to taste, couples can use this new painting technique to really customize their love for the U.P. and each other.

"It’s a little more freestyle where it’s kind of a bonding experience with your significant other and choosing the colors and pouring the paint," explained Dagenais.

Over in Negaunee couples can celebrate on Saturday with the unique Valentine’s Poker Run.

"It consists of two people, one pulling one on the sled up and down the street to seven different establishments getting a card and bringing it back to the eagles by 5 p.m," said Lisa Gannon, an organizer.

"It’s just a lot of fun, you don’t stop laughing," added Kathie Kohn, another Poker Run organizer.

Between the sledding and celebrating, participants will also be donating to the Negaunee Township volunteer Fire/EMS.

"Every year we do it for a different organization," said Kohn. "This is all a donation, none of the money comes back to us."

And the Valentine’s Day events continue within Marquette County including sushi rolling at Harley's at the Ramada, painting at Hot Plate, a planetarium show and yoga with snow shoeing at Rippling River. All to show love to the community and each other.

"Valentine’s Day in particular is all about togetherness and bonding and learning and spending time doing something unique and fun," said Dagenais.
