HOUGHTON, Mich. (WLUC) - The Houghton City Council said no to marijuana establishments Wednesday evening. At their regular meeting, the city council held a public hearing on a proposed ordinance that would ban businesses involved in the sale, production, transportation, and processing of recreational marijuana. After the hearing the city council unanimously passed the ordinance. The council believes this was the right move for the city of Houghton.
“We looked at the ordinance as almost a proactive measure on our part, in order for the state to really get to the meat of things and get the rules and the licensing parts down,” said city manager Eric Waara.
Waara says that the city is open to reconsidering, when and if the state passes regulations.
