Two marijuana ordinances were introduced at Wednesday’s Houghton City Council meeting.

One a brand new ordinance on allowing retail for adult use marijuana, the other a revised version of the current medical marijuana ordinance. The council has planned a public hearing on the ordinances and if passed won't be the end of the process for potential marijuana retailers.

"There's a statutory period that it has to be published and so on, as well as the distinction that currently the city of Houghton has opted out of recreational sales. We would have an ordinance in place, but the city has not yet opted into recreational sales," said Eric Waara, Houghton’s City Manager.

The public hearing will take place at the beginning of Houghton’s City Council meeting on March 11th at 5:30 p.m.
