Hospice volunteers needed

HANCOCK, Mich. (WLUC) - U.P. Health System - Hospice held volunteer training Thursday in Hancock.

Hospice facilities are required to have five percent of their care provided by volunteers. Volunteer tasks include visiting patients, respite care and administrative tasks. Training covers a variety of information including pain management, confidentiality and communication skills. There is no minimum time commitment required from volunteers.

"Unfortunately sometimes when we have a Hospice patient they aren't with us a really long time, but there is usually quite a bit of movement and so there are hospice patients needing visitors. So, they would even appreciate one visit if they could get that," said volunteer coordinator Julie Beck.
