With the recent home invasions we've seen here in the U.P. police say there are a few things people can do, to help prevent a break-in.

The Marquette Police say that it is beneficial for homeowners to know their neighbors, so they can look out for each other. But there are two key factors that the police can't stress enough.

”Lock your doors all the time whether it’s your residence, your vehicle, or your out buildings," says Captain Michael Laurila of the Marquette City Police Department. “If you see or suspect anything suspicious in or around your neighborhood to call your local police department.”

If you are going away for a long period of time, there is a program in some communities, where police keep an eye on your home when you're gone. Contact your local police department for more information.
