Highland Clan Motorcycle Club raises over $9,000 worth of toys
The North Coast Chapter of the Highland Clan Motorcycle Club raised over $9,000 worth of toys during their 22nd annual toy drive.
Members of the club picked out the toys on Friday evening at Meijers.
This journey started back in August, when the chapter went around to local businesses seeking donations for their Toy Run event in October.
The Toy Run event included a live auction and raised all the money that the group put to good use on Friday evening.
"Without the support of the community and the local businesses, especially up on the ‘west end’ there we wouldn't be able to do this at all, but all this stuff goes to the kids primarily on the ‘west end,’ said Peter Heikkila, member of the Highland Clan Motorcycle Club. “We support the Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots, the Mining Journal Cheer Club, the Giving Tree at Lakeview school, some foster children this year in Marquette."
The chapter did their toy shopping at Shopko for the first 21 years of this event, but unfortunately the store shut down and left the area.
That is when Meijers stepped up to support the toy drive and even contributed a $300 donation.
