NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WLUC) - The Heikki Lunta Winter Festival kicked off Friday in Negaunee with a parade.
The parade was organized by the Antique and Vintage Snowmobile Association. The group rode a variety of unique snowmobiles, some of which were built in the 1960s.
This is the first year the organization has been involved in the event.
“When I found out about the parade, we all decided to take it over. It’s our first parade that we’re actually doing tonight, and I think it’s going to be a good one. Called a lot of people, talked to a lot of people,” said Ron Giannunzio, Antique and Vintage Snowmobile Association.
This year marks the 50th annual Heikki Lunta Winter Festival in Negaunee. The fun continues on Saturday with a variety of activities, including luge lessons at Lucy Hill and an art show featuring Negaunee Public School students.
