Hancock woman celebrates 110 years
The family of Julia Carlson Dennis will be celebrating her 110th birthday on Sunday, September 8 following the 10:30 a.m. worship service at Gloria Dei Lutheran church in Hancock where Dennis has been a member her entire life.
Dennis was born in Hancock on September 10, 1909, to Anna and Frederick Carlson. Her parents were charter members of the Swedish Lutheran Church (Salem Lutheran Church) which was one of the congregations that formed Gloria Dei in 1970.
Thanks to her caring family, Dennis never misses a Sunday service or the coffee fellowship afterwards and will be the center of attention at the 11:30 coffee fellowship on September 8.
Dennis owned her own accounting business, unusual for a woman of her time, and worked until the age of 70. She kept a couple of clients for whom she completed income tax returns until she turned 90 when she decided she no longer wanted to keep up on current tax laws.
She cleared her own snow until the age of 100, and at 105 moved out of her home into a long-term care facility.
It is anticipated that she will be recognized on September 10 on NBC Today Show’s Smucker’s birthday tribute, which can be seen on TV6.
