HANCOCK, Mich. (WLUC) - The votes are in, and the Hancock City Council has spoken.

Former mayor Barry Givens will be Hancock's new city manager if he accepts the position.

Just after 2 p.m. Saturday, the council made the unanimous decision after interviewing four candidates that morning. The finalists were former Hancock mayor Barry Givens, the town administrator for Cedar Lake, Ind., Jill Murr; the co-chair of the planning commission for Clayton Township in Lower Michigan, Robert Widigan; and Matt Wiitala, who has worked for MDOT and the DEQ.

Longtime Hancock City Manager Glenn Anderson will be retiring at the end of the year.

Givens' decision to become next city manager should be known within the next couple weeks.
