Friday night was homecoming in Gwinn, and for a group of former players, it was a special one.

During Friday night's Modeltowners game, the 1969 football team was honored. 2019 is the 50th anniversary of Gwinn's only undefeated season.

The team, led by head coach George McCormick went 7-0-1. Members of the team got a front row seat on the sidelines during the game, watching their alma mater play on a field named after their old coach.

“George McCormick to us was a very special man, he was a tremendous coach, and our assistant coach, Matt Syrja, he was a terrific guy as well,” said Gordon Haughey, who played offensive and defensive tackle on the 1969 Modeltowners squad. “We were blessed back in the day, Gwinn had one of the nicest tracks and fields in the Midwest, and that's still the case today. It's a great place to be.”

During the 1969 undefeated season the Gwinn football team only gave up 6 points.
