MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - A groundbreaking ceremony for a new senior independent living neighborhood was held in Marquette on Tuesday.
The new facility named "Windstone at Mill Creek" will feature 26 two-bedroom cottage-style duplexes.
Windstone will also have a 2,100 square-foot community center, which will serve as the “hub” for the new neighborhood.
The goal with the new center, Harlow Farms Community Developer LR Swadley said, is to provide senior citizens with a safe and convenient place to live.
"Senior housing in particular has a growing need in the United States and independent living is probably one of the best choices for active adults as they're aging. They want a great place to age in place that has all the support and security and services that an independent living community can provide,” Swadley said.
The $6 million project will be constructed in three phases and Swadley hopes for the first units to be move-in ready by June of 2020.
