ISHPEMING, Mich. (WLUC) - A ribbon cutting dedication was held earlier Thursday for the Hematite Art Park located across from Ishpeming High School.
This site was a group effort between Marquette County Land Bank Authority and Ishpeming Public Schools.
Prior to the park, the site once held two blight structures. Now, the area is an outdoor art display for local youth to admire.
"This is really the County Land Bank Authority's first vacant space redevelopment project that we've taken on in the county. You know we're really known for our blight elimination efforts, which many times include demolition, and anytime you're doing demolition you end up with vacant spaces, and we really wanted to prove that vacant spaces can be vibrant places and that's what we tried to create here on this site,” explained Marquette County Land Bank Authority Executive Director, Anne Giroux.
There's room for four more art panels on the site. Anyone interested in sponsoring an art panel is asked to contact Marquette County Land Bank Authority.
