MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC)- Former State Senator Mike Prusi has been selected by newly elected Governor Gretchen Whitmer to serve as the director of the governor’s northern Michigan office.

Prusi has previously served in the Michigan House of Representatives for 5 years and the Michigan Senate for 8 years. As director, Prusi will be responsible for communicating the wants and needs of Michigan’s first district directly with Whitmer's offices in Lansing.

Prusi says his primary focus will be ensuring adequate funding for K-12 and higher education in the U.P., as well as economic development for small business, job creation, and job retention. He will work closely with organizations like the Michigan Economic Development Corporation to achieve these goals.

“I'm enthused to be back in public service,” said Prusi. “I love the Upper Peninsula, I love the people up here and whatever I can do to bring their concerns and their needs to the state government down in Lansing, that's one of the reasons I'm here.”

Prusi's office is located in the Marquette courthouse annex at 234 West Baraga Ave, Marquette, 49855. You can contact him personally by email at or at his office by appointment.
