WASHINGTON D.C. (WLUC) - Governor Gretchen Whitmer was featured in a summit discussing foreign economic development in Michigan.
Gov. Whitmer was part of the SelectUSA Investment Summit, an event dedicated to promoting foreign direct investment in the United States.
The governor sat in a panel discussing biotechnology issues and opportunities for states such as Michigan.
She also met with representatives from several global companies, hoping to make the case that Michigan's current economic climate is one where new technologies can thrive.
"The strength of our economy requires that we have a diversity of a portfolio, that we are a place where people are coming to from around the world to invest. It's our great legacy and it needs to be our future, to shore up our economy," said Gov. Whitmer.
SelectUSA is a nation-wide government program led by the U.S. Department of Commerce. To date SelectUSA has facilitated nearly $50 billion in investments.
