IRONWOOD, Mich. (WLUC) - Students from Ontonagon and Gogebic counties went to Gogebic Community College Thursday for Career Exploration Day.
Representatives from a variety of businesses and organizations set up at Gogebic Community College to let high school students know what types of careers are out there. The event also helps to give students an overview of the potential jobs available for them within the western Upper Peninsula.
“It's critical that the students be here right now, is because in general as I’m talking with students they don't express optimism about opportunities in the area. They don't think there are any good jobs here. When I talk with employers and stress the opposite, students have wonderful opportunities here they just don't know about them," said Glen Ackerman-Behr, Director of Workforce Development at Gogebic Community College.
The students also got information on what types of courses they would need to take after high school to pursue the careers they were interested in.
