MANISTIQUE, Mich. (WLUC) - A friendly giant may soon be returning to Manistique.
In the spring of 2020, the city will break ground on the brand new Blanchard Paul Bunyan Park. The city raised $150,000 to pay for the park, and had that amount matched by the state. The new park will feature a playground, skateboarding areas, a pavilion, and a sand volleyball court.
They hope it was also feature a fifty foot statue of Paul Bunyan, similar to the one that stood in the city nearly 50 years ago.
“There's a lot of individuals that have been working a lot of years to try to get this Paul Bunyan back,” said Manistique recreation board chairman Mike Powers. “So we feel honored that we can incorporate it into our West Side Park.”
The city hopes to be complete with the park, sometime in the next two years.
