CHAMPION, Mich. (WLUC) - The Greater Ishpeming-Negaunee Area Chamber of Commerce (GINCC) held one of its biggest fundraisers this evening.
For the second year, the GINCC put on its West End Winter Wonderland event showing off a number of Chamber Member Businesses.
"Well it was actually my predecessor's idea, she was the executive director before me and she was very passionate about winter sports, and her thing was skiing. She just thought, 'Why isn't there an outdoor event like this going on for people? Why isn't there something where people can just enjoy different things along a beautiful groomed path and enjoy the U.P., and have it be lit and beautiful for people to walk along?' So we decided to continue it," says Kelsey Reyes, Executive Director of GINCC.
For a small fee, people could come out with their snowshoes, fat bikes, or skis to go along the groomed path of the front nine holes at the Wawonowin Country Club in Champion. Each business station provided some sort of food, drink or game to entertain guests while enjoying the great U.P. outdoors. All participants who went to all stations along the golf course and received a stamp were entered into a grand prize drawing for a Travel Marquette gift basket worth more than $200.
"As the Chamber, we just want to put on as many events as possible that are engaging for the community, show off our chamber member businesses and just give people an opportunity to experience the U.P. in a different way, and this is one of the best we could think of," Reyes explains.
The Greater Ishpeming-Negaunee Area Chamber of Commerce's next event will be Vegas Comes to Ishpeming at River Rock Lanes on March 10 from 7-10 p.m.
