Free fishing day at Pocket Park

ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - Thursday, 60 students from the Delta-Schoolcraft County Intermediate School District stepped outside the classroom to have some fun at Pocket Park on the Upper Peninsula State Fair grounds in Escanaba.

While there, students were able to fish for free. They also shot guns at the park's gun range.

Steven Howes, a substitute teacher for the school district, says this is a good way for students to bond and get involved.

"The goal is to establish friendships,” he said. “Hopefully get along with each other, learn some social skills while doing this and most importantly, have fun, reduce idle time and give them something to do."

This is just one of many events the school district has planned for the summer. Coming up in August, Howes says they'll visit Wallace Zoo for even more adventure.
