Free access to library services ending for Chassell Township residents

CHASSELL TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - Effective January 1, 2019, residents of Chassell Township will no longer have free access to services at the Portage Lake District Library. Because the township residents voted to leave the library district, they will need to pay a non-resident membership fee to continue checking out materials.

For non-residents, the cost of a membership is $110 a year for an individual or $155 for a family. Those rates are based on the average annual tax payed by residents of the library district. Non-residents may choose to purchase 3-month or 6-month memberships as well.

Chassell Township residents are still welcome to use materials in the library and attend programs. Without a membership, they will be unable to check out books, participate in inter-library loan, or access digital resources and databases.
