MENOMINEE, Mich. (WLUC) - The former Menominee County deputy accused of sexually assaulting a teenager has waived his Wednesday court appearance.
Brian Helfert was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning in Menominee County District Court on two counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct. He's accused of assaulting a 16-year-old boy.
Menominee County Prosecutor Jeffrey Rogg says Helfert's attorney, Trent Stupak of Escanaba, has filed a waiver of arraignment. That means Helfert won't appear in court Wednesday.
His preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 18 at 1:30 p.m., Rogg says.
