IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WLUC) - The Flivver hockey game Tuesday night was a little different than other games they play in. For the first time, the team dedicated their game to the veterans.
Vets were asked to stand for a round of applause before the game started. Pictures of the teams' veteran family members hung around the rink and Woodland Elementary fourth graders sang the national anthem.
"Our veteran community is huge in this area,” Flivver Head Coach, Dennis Murvich, said. “We have the VA hospital right here in Iron Mountain. We just felt that it was a great opportunity. We haven't seen anything like this in hockey. We looked at it as an opportunity to honor our vets."
This was the first year for this event, but the team hopes to bring it back every year.
