MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Saturday is the first 4/20 since the passing of Proposal 1 in November. 4/20 is a day in which thousands celebrate a drug that was recently made legal in Michigan – marijuana.
However, authorities aren’t too worried about Saturday’s festivities, as it’s still illegal for recreational use outside your home.
"The state of Michigan hasn't approved a licensing way of doing it so we don't have any licensed distributors for recreational marijuana,” said Marquette County Sheriff, Greg Zyburt.
Marijuana must be smoked in the confines of a private building. The law permits that you can only have up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana on person or 10 ounces in your home.
A reminder from Sheriff Zyburt that just because it is 4/20, you can still receive a civil infraction and at least a $100 fine for smoking illegally.
