First UP Food Summit in Iron Mountain

IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WLUC) - On Friday, Michigan State University’s Extension hosted Iron Mountain's first U.P. Food Summit at Bay College West to help food entrepreneurs.

Retail experts offered advice and shared their personal experiences. Organizers also had a table for local entrepreneurs to place food for people to try.

From Friday's event, presenters hope food entrepreneurs will feel more confident about their business.

"People will understand how to have those first conversations with store managers,” said MSU Extension Innovation Counselor Parker Jones. “It's really stressful to walk into a store with your product, and trying to get it on the shelves, and generally we're setting up a framework of experts they can talk to so that when they have a question in one of these areas, they'll know who to reach out to so they aren't going in alone."

Organizers look forward to hosting the U.P. Food Summit in Iron Mountain again next year.
