Fire and an explosion destroyed a house in Negaunee Township on Thursday night. It happened around 10:30 p.m. The home located at 154 Neejee Road.

Officials on scene said it's a total loss. It's believed to be a trailer with an attached garage. Both structures down to the ground and burning, with debris from the home scattered 15 yards out from the structure in all directions.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire. The homeowner says she was out of town with her baby Thursday night, and her husband was out of town for work. She says there's no details yet on what caused the fire.

Negaunee Township firefighters were first on scene. They say there was literally nothing left of the home when they arrived. It appears all sides of the home were blown out, with the roof coming down on the main floor of the house.

Fire officials on the scene say there's no way to determine at this time how this happened. However they say, there was some kind of an explosion that blew out the home's outside walls.

Firefighters have been on the scene all night. Negaunee City and Marquette Township firefighters were also on scene providing assistance. An investigation is underway.
