HANCOCK, Mich. (WLUC) - A Finlandia University professor received a great honor in the Finnish-American community.
Finnish and Nordic studies professor, Hilary Virtanen is elected to the Finlandia Foundation Board of Trustees. The national organization supports space for Finnish culture in the United States through programs, grants and scholarships.
"One is the League of Finnish-American Societies in Marquette and the other is the Finish Theme Committee in Hancock. The Finlandia Foundation has a lot of reach right here in our local area. They have helped with a lot of programs that have touched the lives of Yooper-Finns and people across the Midwest and across the country actually, said Virtanen.
