Fill the Fire Truck Food Drive sets Munising ablaze
Sirens rang throughout Munising on Saturday as volunteers and local firefighters collected food as part of their Fill the Fire Truck Food Drive.
"We just love helping our community. We believe in what we do here, and we need volunteers,” said Bobbi Ayotte.
Ayotte was just one of many who volunteered her time to support Munising’s Fire Department.
"I'm excited to help. I have my kids along and a basketball player, and we're just ready to collect food Saturday,” she explained.
This way Ayotte says she knows she’s helping to make sure families are fed this holiday season.
"There are people that are in need, and the people here in Munising are so supportive of their neighbors. The Munising Fire Department and the Township Fire Department loves doing this. We love giving back to the community,” said Munising Fire Department Chief, Dan Malone.
Saturday’s journey started at the Munising Fire Department, where several fire trucks left the station, roaming throughout local neighborhoods collecting canned foods.
"We have a great bunch of firefighters. They care about the community, and like I said we like to give back so they'll do a good job Saturday,” said Malone.
Malone thanks the Munising Township Fire Department, the AC3 Group and local high school athletes for their help in Saturday’s drive.
After everything's complete, Malone says the departments will divide the canned goods to donate to St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry and Alger Food Pantry.
