MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Tuesday, April 23 at 4 p.m. is the deadline to run for seats on the Marquette City Commission and the Marquette Board of Light and Power.
Two of the seven seats will open up on the city commission and one of the five seats will become available on the Board of Light and Power.
Currently, only one application has been turned in.
Marquette City Clerk recommends filing the paperwork sooner than later to ensure everything is in order.
Kris Hazeres, Marquette City Clerk, explains the requirements for these positions, saying, "You have to be a registered resident of the city [of Marquette] for at least a year prior to filing, you can't be in debt [to the city], at least 18 years old, as the standard, and fill out and return the proper paperwork."
Marquette City Clerk is happy to answer any additional questions.
