ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - The centennial of Finnish independence is being celebrated across the UP but it carries particular meaning for one young man, spending the day in Escanaba.
17 year old Lari Nuutinen is an exchange student from the Finnish city of Tampere who is spending a year in Escanaba.
Today Lari celebrated the holiday by unrolling the Finnish colors with some classmates and playing the Finnish national anthem to start the school day.
The class also took part is a short Skype conversation with Lari's sister in Finland and shared in some treats.
Lari will be here until next summer and says he was happy to celebrate this special day with friends in the UP.
