IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WLUC) - Iron Mountain's Business after Hours had a few special guests Friday night. International athletes in town for this weekend’s ski jump came out for a meet and greet with their fans.
"It gives everybody an opportunity to meet skiers from different nationalities,” Linda Roethle, Vice President of Regional Business Development with Bellin Health, said. “They have live music playing, which is always enjoyable. You get to mix and mingle with members of the community, the business community and the skiers with that international flair bring something special."
This is an exciting event for both the athletes and the fans. One young fan, Parker Vassar, has been watching ski jumps for most his life and finally got to meet them.
"It's fun. It's nice getting all their autographs and saying good luck to every team,” Vassar said. “I just have a goal to get as many autographs as I possibly can."
"It's nice to have talks with your fans and with people who is looking at the ski jumping,” Vojtech Sdursa, an athlete from the Czech Republic said.
Now that they've met who will be in the crowds, the jumpers are getting ready for tomorrow's competition. Some are still just enjoying being in the United States.
"It's something different to be here in the United States as it is not so usual to have ski jumping competitions here,” Sdursa continued. “I'm really enjoying the time here."
The ski jumps will be taking place all weekend at the Pine Mountain Ski Resort.
