ISHPEMING, Mich. (WLUC) - To thank the community for their support throughout the years, the Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum announced Friday they will be holding an Iron Ore Heritage Celebration.
This one day event will take place on Saturday. The museum plans to honor the people and rich history of the Marquette Iron Range.
They also will celebrate the 175th anniversary of the discovery of iron ore in Negaunee, along with the 100th anniversary of the concrete construction of the iconic A & B Obelisk shaft houses and the 40 year anniversary of the closing of the Mather B. Mine in Negaunee.
"It’s very exciting. We have a great crew. Everyone at the museum is aware of it. We hope that everyone here at the museum will be here tomorrow, and work as ambassadors and answer questions and we're really looking forward to having a fun little celebration and we see that the weather looks like it's going to cooperate as well,” said Mike Ilmonen, a tour guide at Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum.
There also will be local crafters, food, drinks, music and even a bounce house for the community to enjoy.
