ISHPEMING, Mich. (WLUC) - Birchview Elementary in Ishpeming hosted a Family Health Night Tuesday evening for students and their families. Sowshoeing and sledding were a few of the outdoor activities.
Inside, there were lessons about healthy foods including fresh fruits and vegetables. The school's Principal, Matthew Byce, says events like this can help make a more well rounded student.
"When you're teaching students about academics and everything like that, that's really important but in order to get the whole child, you want to make sure you touch on the health and wellness, socially, emotionally, physically, mentally, it's really important," Byce said.
The cooking and food lessons at the family health night were provided by the Marquette Alger Regional Educational Service Agency or MARESA.
