ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - The Escanaba City Council approved plans to expand the city's solar farm.
The unanimous vote gave the city power company the green light to add more than 1,400 new panels to the already 3,500 in use.
The panels are set up just west of the Delta County Airport.
City residents are able to purchase a panel, and see a reduced rate on their electric bill at the rate of about $25 a year.
"It's a good deal for us. It's not 100 percent on the environmental aspect, I mean that's definitely a part of it, but also the financial side it makes good sense," said Electric Superintendent Mike Furmanski.
The power company hopes to have the new panels in place by the end of the summer.
