ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - The rotary is giving away $1,000 scholarships to four qualified Delta County students who are heading off to college.
15 years ago the rotary began by giving out one scholarship but over the years as the need has grown so have the number of scholarships, hitting four for the first time this year.
Those seeking the scholarship need to fill out an application and write a short essay about how one of the tenets of the rotary club matters in your life. "Service over self" is that concept.
The deadline for application is April 1st.
Todd Myrick is a former rotary president and coordinates the club's scholarship program.
"This scholarship is not awarded to just the valedictorian or salutatorian or the student with the highest GPA. We like to see community involvement. Activities, volunteerism. Students that are giving back here in the area."
