ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - There was a lot going on at the Escanaba Public Library on Wednesday night, as they celebrated both their grand re-opening and the Friends of the Library Summer Kick-off Party.
In addition to cake, ice cream, a performance by the city band, and a book sale, guests were invited to take a look around the library and see the changes that have been made.
"We've done an interior refreshment of the library. Basically we have all new flooring, new lighting, we've taken the opportunity to kind of look at our space and rearrange things to accommodate how people use libraries today," Library Director Carolyn Stacey says.
Stacey says the goal was to create a harmonious and inviting community space that anyone could feel comfortable using. She believes they did just that.
The feedback thus far has been very positive. Stacey says they surveyed the community when thinking of ways to upgrade the library, and took those ideas into consideration when making changes.
"I love the reading area up front, we've really opened that up so people can look out the windows to see the garden that the friends maintain and see the bay and just kind of get that feel of nature," Stacey says.
The upgrades were made possible by fundraising and help from the city of Escanaba.
