MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Many hungry people decided to do good simply by eating a bowl of soup. They gathered at the Marquette Alternative High School for the Empty Bowls luncheon.
Community members picked out their own bowl, which they got to keep as a reminder of those in need. The goal was to raise awareness and educate about hunger in the U.P. The bowls were made by students of the alternative high school, the Ceramics Collective, and fellow community members.
"I love to see our students shine. They love actively participating in the community and giving back," said Co-Coordinator Joy Bender Hadley.
The event also included a raffle for several donated items and packages.
All proceeds will go to Northern Michigan University's Cat Packs and the Harbor House.
