SKANDIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - As part of their 125th anniversary celebration, the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Skandia Township held a “Celebration of Weddings” on Sunday.
Intricate wedding gowns from as far back as the 1800s hung from windows in the church as people reminisced about their family wedding traditions.
Old photographs, veils and even a home-made Swedish “princess” wedding cake were also on display.
For the community, the event is a great way to get back in touch with Scandinavian traditions.
“My family is here. This is my family's church. My husband's grandmother, great grandmother, so it's all about the history,” said Diane Johnson, who made the cake for the event.
A presentation on Scandinavian weddings and traditions was also held.
