Downstate man enters not guilty plea by reason of insanity on murder charge

CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) - A downstate man accused of killing a Chippewa County resident pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity Tuesday in circuit court.

Richard Sprague, 58, is charged with second degree murder.

Authorities say 79-year-old Jeffrey Burnett was killed sometime between the late evening hours of January 23 and early morning hours of January 24 in Kinross.

Sprague will be placed in a forensic center for a minimum of 60 days. After that 60 days, court will determine whether or not more time is needed to be spent in the center.

No future court dates are scheduled at this time.
