Downstate man ejected from snowmobile in Friday Marquette Township crash

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - A downstate man was injured in a snowmobile crash Friday in Marquette Township.

According to the Marquette County Sheriff's Office, deputies and a Michigan Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer, were dispatched to a single snowmobile crash at 1:39 p.m. Jan. 17. The crash happened on Trail 14, 4.5 miles north of the Holyoak Trail.

The sheriff's office says 60-year-old Francisco Olivarez, of downstate Deerfield, was traveling north, failed to negotiate a curve and ran off the right side of the trail. His snowmobile hit a tree and Olivarez was ejected.

Deputies say Olivarez received a head injury and was transported to UP Health System-Marquette for treatment.

The sheriff's office says alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

Deputies were assisted by the Michigan DNR, Marquette Township Fire and EMS an UP Health System EMS.
