Down Wind Sports hosts winter demo

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Down Wind Sports hosted their winter sports demo Saturday at the Forestville trailhead.

It was a great opportunity to try out a variety of cross country skis, snow shoes and fat tire bikes before committing to a big purchase.

Down Wind Co-Owner Jeff Stasser says the friendly knowledgeable staff can also make sure you've got the right fit and answer any questions.

"It’s a big financial commitment for people to buy a new bike or to buy snowshoes for the family or skis. And if they have the chance to actually try those skis that they're thinking about purchasing and make a decision that they're comfortable with, it's better for them,” Stasser reasoned.

Stasser and his staff know their products inside and out. So they can answer whatever questions you might have, from bindings to bike chains.

"We seem to be outside a lot and we use the skis, snowshoes and bikes every day ourselves. So sharing it with people is really cool for us," Stasser asserted.

If you’ve been using the same gear for years, you might be surprised by some of the new technology available in the winter sports arena.

"Every year they keep improving skis, making snowshoe bindings that are easier to use. Of course fat bikes are changing, seems like every day they come out with something new on those. So it's exciting to be in the industry that we're in and to be part of all the innovations that make the gear work better every year"

Stasser also says they offer aggressive discounts at events like this.

Down Wind will also host another demo at the Michigan Tech trails in Houghton Sunday, January 13th and at Valley Spur in Munising Saturday, January 19th.
