A DeTour woman has been charged after a fatal car crash in Chippewa County that occurred December 2, 2016.

Chippewa County Sheriff's Office responded to a motor vehicle accident with an occupant trapped inside on East M-48 near Townline Road. There, they found a 2011 RAM pickup rolled over onto its top. Evidence on scene had deputies questioning who the driver and passenger was. After a month of investigation, officials arrested and charged Tiffany Lin-Dee Dumback, 37, the suspected driver.

Dumback was arraigned this Wednesday and officially charged with manslaughter with a motor vehicle, a 15-year felony, and failure to report an accident.

The passenger of the vehicle, Benjamin Ray Hilts, 35, of Detour, died as a result of his injuries. The fire department had to cut Hilts out of the truck and EMS personnel were able to get him out.

Evidence shows that speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash. No 911 calls were ever made from any occupants inside the vehicle.

Dumback is due back in court January 30 for a preliminary exam.
