Delta County Sheriff's Office hopes to move into new facility in June

ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - The Delta County Sheriff's Office had hoped to be moved into their new facility last year, but bumps in the road have made the transition a difficult journey.

The new jail in particular is sorely needed as the current jail is over capacity by about 40 inmates.

The harsh winter didn't help as snow removal at two facilities was far more costly than previous years, and various inspections and installations have taken longer than planned.

All in all, Sheriff Ed Oswald says now they are on the right track.

"The dots weren't always quite connected, and there's been tweaking to get everything connected, but you can walk through today and we're there now," said Oswald.

Sheriff Oswald says he's confident his office and the jail will be moved into the new facility by the end of next month.
