MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Death threats and backlash from social media posts has forced Dan Adamini to resign from his role as secretary of the Marquette County Republic Party.
Adamini made national headlines for a Facebook and Twitter post that seemed to suggest 'another Kent State' as a solution for campus protests.
Adamini wrote his posts on Facebook and Twitter after last week’s protest on the University of California-Berkley campus over an event featuring a conservative speaker.
Since the incident, Adamini has taken down the posts, has suspended his weekly radio show “In the Right Mind," and has now stepped down from his role in the Marquette County Republican Party with this statement:
“For the good of the Republican party in Marquette and Michigan
I hereby resign my position as secretary.
The hatred being directed toward me because of my comments on social media is beginning to hurt others and I do not want that to happen.
The threats and hatred do not appear to be dying down and I do not want to be a distraction to the important work that lies ahead. I will continue to support the party, but will not do so in an official capacity for the foreseeable future.”
Marquette County Sheriff’s Office has been contacted and notified regarding the threatening messages Adamini has received.
