It's an effort to encourage all riders to drive on the right side of the trail at safe speeds and sober. The campaign also includes increased patrols and signage on the trails.
DNR officials say one of the most important parts of the campaign is getting riders to be aware of their speeds.
"80 percent of our crashes are speed-related. We're seeing an increase in that and we believe that's associated with the newer snowmobiles which are smoother, there's a lot of suspension and people are simply carrying more speed than they realize," said DNR U.P. Trails Coordinator Ron Yesney.
In addition to the Ride Right campaign the DNR is also cracking down on snowmobile exhaust systems that exceed an 88 decibel sound limit.
