UPDATE: Names released in deadly crash on US-41 in Portage Township

PORTAGE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - On Friday, November 9th, at approximately 10 A.M. Troopers from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post witnessed a logging truck vs. car crash at the intersections of US-41 and Denton Road.

Investigation revealed that the car, driven by 19-year-old Alexander James Fisher of Chassell was traveling westbound on Denton Road and failed to stop at the intersection of US-41.

The logging truck driven by 49-year-old Gregory Keranen of Pelkie was traveling southbound on US-41 and struck Fisher’s vehicle. Fisher was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers were assisted by the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office, Houghton Police Department, MTU Public Safety, Laurium Police Department, Mercy EMS, Chassell First Responders, Hurontown Fire and Rescue, and Superior Service.

The crash remains under investigation.
Rescue crews at the scene of a Friday morning crash say one person was killed.

The crash was reported on US-41 near Denton Road, between Houghton and Chassell, around 10:00 a.m. Friday.

Hurontown Fire and Rescue told TV6 that one person died.

No further information about the vehicles involved is immediately available, but drivers should expect delays and use extra caution in the area. US-41 remains open.

Light to moderate snow has been falling in the area Friday morning.
