UPDATE: One dead in semi vs. car crash south of Escanaba

FORD RIVER, Mich. (WLUC) - UPDATE: 8:42 p.m.

Deputies say, one person died in the crash Thursday morning on M-35 and have released the names of those involved.
The passenger car, driven by Dustin Weigal, 35, of Escanaba was traveling northbound on M-35, south of Breezy Point, when it went into the southbound lane. The car was struck head on by the semi tractor and trailer, driven by Donald Jagoditsh, 52, of Wausau, WI.

Weigal was pronounced deceased on scene and was extricated using the Jaws of Life. The crash remains under investigation.

According to TV6's Alicia Naspretto, who was on the scene of the crash Thursday afternoon, M-35 was open to traffic again after being closed for close to four hours.

No other details on conditions or injuries have been released at this time.

A serious crash between a semi and a car on M-35 near Breezy Point Bar, south of Escanaba, has caused a traffic detour Thursday morning.

If you're driving between Escanaba and Menominee, police say to use US-2 and US-41 as a detour while the crash is cleaned up.

The Delta County Sheriff's Office says deputies are at the scene of a car vs. semi crash on M-35 south between Breezy Point and the Ford River.

Authorities say the road will be closed until further notice, and please use a different route if planning on traveling in that area. The crash was reported around 10:00 a.m. eastern time Thursday.

Escanaba Public Safety says ALL southbound M-35 traffic will be rerouted to US-2/41 at Lincoln Avenue and Ludington Street in the City of Escanaba.

Menominee County E-911 says barricades are being put up on M-35 in Menominee and at County Road G-12.
