MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - The Michigan Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, or ESGR, held a informative luncheon Tuesday afternoon. The event featured several guest speakers who talked about the importance of hiring veterans and how employers can become more veteran friendly.

Speakers also highlighted the importance of events like these where employers are able to network with veterans groups and exchange information. Many said hiring veterans is also a way of saying thank you while helping you fill job openings.

"Our soldiers are out there serving our country whether it's full time active military or part-time, doing it on their weekends, doing a week here and there, or being deployed off to Afghanistan or Iraq, and when they come back we want to make sure they have those jobs that are still there and saying thank you to them and showing them our support," said ESGR Region 1 Area Chair, Pamela Basal.

According to stats presented during the event, Michigan's veterans unemployment rate is down to about 3 percents.
