ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - City and township leaders from all over the U.P. gathered in Escanaba to discuss and learn how to get their communities ready for the future.
The Michigan Municipal League held and event called the U.P. Education Summit, where community leaders could listen to and as questions of several guest speakers.
Topics included code and zoning regulations, smart-zone development, and the overall importance of updating infrastructure.
Municipal League members say it's important to get community leaders together to share problems and solutions.
"Very rarely do we find something a community is dealing with that we can't get them some help, either from downstate or somebody up here in the U.P. or across the country. Good public policy is good public policy, no matter where you live," said Michigan Municipal League CEO Dan Gilmartin.
The summit continues Friday morning with discussions on commercial marijuana establishments, best pension practices, and a state legislative update.
