HANCOCK, Mich. (WLUC) - The city of Hancock put a new dock in at its community recreation area.

The city held a ribbon cutting ceremony today for the new dock, and invited the town for free hot dogs and cake. The old dock was in a state of severe disrepair and needed to be replaced.

The beach recreation area has been a community staple for years, and the city council is hoping that the new dock will help bring more families out.

"Now the dock is open, and today we're celebrating the completion of the dock. As you can hear and see behind me the splashes of the children, they're really enjoying it. It's been a wonderful addition to the city of Hancock," said Deborah Mann, the Recreation Chairman for the City of Hancock.

Also new to the beach this year is a Portage Paddle Sports location where visitors can rent kayaks and paddleboards.
