MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - The Upper Peninsula Chamber of Musical Festival was held on Friday at Marquette Senior High School.
This festival is for upper Michigan string students to come and perform musical selections in trio, quartet and even quintet ensembles.
Eric Marta, Orchestra Director at Marquette Senior High School, says chamber music often times isn't included in student's curriculum.
As a result, he felt providing this experience to students was very important.
"It's just a really fun day. You have a lot of really passionate coaches who come out to work with the students, all of the students are here on their own time,” said Marta. “They're going out of their way to get here through the storm, and it's just a really fun day and positive atmosphere."
Marta says today's festival is preparing students for state solo ensemble. If students do well before the judges, they then are invited to audition to perform in the Michigan Youth Art's Festival.
